Good day to the BCIS community:

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself, my name is Mr. Darin Carney. I will serve as the Principal at BCIS beginning with the 2017-2018 school year.  I am excited for this opportunity and eager to learn much about the school, community, and culture at BuenaVista Concordia International School. I will arrive on-campus June 12th, to begin the transfer of leadership and plans for the August.

I am a native of Denver, Colorado, USA and have been married to Roberta (Bobbi) since 1990.  My wife and I have raised three successful young men: Kyle, age 24, is a college graduate currently managing a resort in the Colorado; Kelyn, age 21, will be a Senior at University of Colorado (CU) this fall; and Keaton, age 19, will be a sophomore at CU.  My wife will be accompanying me to Shenzhen and will join the BCIS as the Middle School English Teacher.  She has been a classroom teacher and learning specialist for more than 30 years.

I received my Master’s Degree and Principal certification in Leadership, Administration, and Curriculum Development from CU in 1995; I taught in the upper elementary classroom and was an Assistant Principal for the early years of my career.  My first Principalship began in 1997 at Foothills Elementary in Jefferson County, CO. I continued as Principal for 19 more years in that district.  One of my career goals was to open a brand-new school.  I achieved this goal when I earned the right to open Pine Ridge Elementary in August 2010 as Founding Principal, where I continued for 7 more years. This school has grown to be nationally recognized for Excellence in education and currently serves more than 900 Kindergarten through Grade 6 students.

I thoroughly enjoy the energy and passion that is unmistakable in a primary grades school, where anything positive is possible! I firmly believe everything happens for a reason and in its own time.  The timing for me to be named principal at BCIS could not have been any better. I realize that with new leadership, often comes doubt and confusion. Rest assured I will be working diligently with our new staff and the Board to ensure the safety of your children, to assure their learning is of the highest priority, and to secure the strength and future successes of BCIS. My early arrival in China also allows me to begin pre-arrival orientation and training for new teachers.
