Professional Development Conference 2018

Buena Vista Concordia International School hosted the yearly Professional Development Conference on November 16 & 17, 2018.  The Theme of the Conference was ‘Assessment – From the Beginning to the End’. 

Faculty from the following schools attended the conference:

1.       Concordia International School, Hong Kong.

2.       Buena Vista Concordia International School, Shenzhen.

3.       St. Matthew’s Lutheran School, Hong Kong.

4.       Leung Kui Kau Lutheran Primary School, Hong Kong.

5.       Lui Ming Choi Lutheran Primary School, Hong Kong.

6.       Lui Ming Choi Lutheran College, Hong Kong.

7.       Lui Cheung Kwong Lutheran Primary School, Hong Kong.

Dr. Vicki Anderson, the Director of ELL/ESL/TESL Programs, Chair of the Department of Intercultural Studies and Modern Languages, from Concordia University, USA, was our keynote speaker.  Her keynote address was titled ‘The Assessment Survival Guide: Taking a Long Hard Look in the Mirror. (Teacher Formative-Self Assessment).’

Mr. Stephen Hurley an educator from Toronto, Canada and Catalyst of VoicEd (https://voiced.ca/) provided participants a very inspiring presentation via Skype on the power of leveraging podcasts for Faculty Professional Development and student engagement and learning.

The other Professional Development workshops included:

2.       The Assessment Survival Guide: Effectiveness from the Beginning – Dr. Vicki Anderson.

3.       The Assessment Survival Guide: Maximum Effectiveness in Three Levels.

4.       The Assessment Survival Guide: Principals of Assessment for Working with English Language Learners – Dr. Vicki Anderson.

5.       Atlas Rubicon – Mr. Du.

6.       Classroom Management – Mr. Cobb and Mr. McGee.

7.       Build a Service Learning Program in the School – Ms. Jackie Fan.

8.       Teaching Common Core Mathematics with GeoGebra – Ms. Sivakumar.

9.       Attaching Standards to Curriculum and Assessments – Mr. Blake.

10.    Google Office, Class and Site – Mr. Feurdent.

Finally, this Professional Development Conference was supported by our Executive Director Dr. Yung.  Dr. Yung thanked all the Faculty members for participating in this event and provided his encouragement to participants to continue providing excellent learning opportunities to our students.
