BCIS Seventh Annual American Fair Successfully Concluded

The Seventh Annual BCIS American Fair was successfully held on March 23. Despite the rain and the cloudy weather, BCIS staff, students, administration, parents and friends, showed their love for sports and their strong team spirit by coming together for a morning of fun and exercise.

Did you know that China and America are connected through sport? Sometimes when an American person comes to China, their Chinese friends may only recognize where they come from by the name of their local basketball team. But this goes both ways, now in China one can see many famous basketball players playing for Chinese teams. We began this event honoring the special connection between our two countries with first, the Chinese national anthem, and second, the American one. At BCIS we always try to remember that though coming from China and America we can come together and think about what it would mean to honor both places. 

Watch out Michael Jordan, BCIS may have some of the world’s future best players. Almost as impressive as the students’ performance was the fierce competition put up by staff. Did you see Mr. Cockburn’s slamdunk?

 Besides a morning relay race and mixed student/staff basketball game, there were booths: baseball, sailing, concessions, and guitar booths among others. There were so many things to see and experience and of course there was McDonalds. 

The greetings from the American Consulate arrived too, though not able to come in person, their representative made a special video about the significance of sport to America just for those attending. He said that America is proud that it trains some of the best athletes in the world and that, through sport, we can learn many valuable lessons.
